AIMS urges all to stop further import, sale of tobacco products in State

Imphal, November 19 2022: Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) has urged all concerned to stop further import and sale of tobacco products in the State.

In connection with the above matter, a press meet was held today at the office of AIMS at Kwakeithel today.

Addressing media persons, AIMS's Women Affairs Secretary, Nandita Ngasepam maintained that tobacco is one of the products which has an adverse impact on the health of the people and is largely brought to the State by outsiders.

Expressing concern on the increasing rate of tobacco users in the State, she said that regular consumption of tobacco products lead to life threatening illnesses like cancer and are hazardous for one's body.

It is unfortunate that tobacco consumption rate is higher among the women of the State as compared to men, she lamented.

She further highlighted that daily consumption of tobacco especially among the women not only leads to various forms of cancer, it also impacts their fertility as well as affects the health of the newborn babies.

Considering such harmful impacts, AIMS, other student bodies, civil society organizations have been relentlessly fighting against the consumption of tobacco through various measures, she added.

However the use and sale of tobacco is still continued through regular import of these products by outsiders just for mere monetary profit, she claimed.

Lastly she called for cooperation and support from all towards this cause of AIMS to be taken up against the use and sale of tobacco products in the State.
