Imphal, June 06 2018:
Congress workers today staged a protest demonstration against the escalating prices of petroleum products particularly LPG.
Mahila Congress and Youth Congress members who took part in the protest demonstration enacted a scene of cooking food using firewood in front of Congress Bhavan this afternoon.
They also displayed empty LPG cylinders as well as utensils.
The protesters shouted slogans like "Slash LPG price", "We denounce Narendra Modi's policy", "Down with BJP" etc.
Talking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration, Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress president L Tilotama recalled that Union Ministers Sushma Swaraj and Smriti Irani staged a similar protest demonstration when the price of LPG per refill reached Rs 430 during the UP A Government.
At the time, BJP accused the Congress-led UPA Government of being anti-poor.
Now the price of LPG refill has reached Rs 830 and poor families can no longer afford LPG.
In the meantime, prices of other petroleum products like petrol and diesel have been hiked repeatedly, Tilotama said.
She said that the BJP-led NDA Government is anti-poor and their policies are totally contradictory to what they preach.
Even though BJP has been preaching Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, it is BJP leaders who have outraged modesty of maximum number of women, she alleged.
