Imphal, January 05 2012:
A principal against whom charges of sodomy against his own students is being levelled could not be traced.
The matter came to light when a joint team of DESAM volunteers and media-persons went to verify reports that the principal had misbehaved against young male student-boarders of Chandonpokpi Chingyapat Hill Rose Academy in Bishnupur district.
The accused principal has been identified as Laishram Chinglen (45) of Tangjeng Ahallup Chinga Leikai under Kumbi assembly constituency.
Parents of the victimised students told the joint team that they came to know about the incident some days back when their children refused to return to their hostel/boarding after the winter break.
It has been informed that soon after L Chinglen assumed charge as the school principal in 2011 a hostel was established in which nine girls and 26 boys used to stay.
The private educational institution established in 1998 and having classes from nursery upto class VII standard, has a total of 120 students out of whom criteria was set that the boarders have to bring their own monthly ration in addition to hostel fee of Rs 300 each.
While the girl hostellers were spared, the principal used to single out the boys and call them to his room on a frequent basis that he is not well and needs massaging, the parents quoted their children as saying.
After sodomising the students on a regular interval the principal allegedly intimidated or coaxed them against revealing his misconduct, they claimed while asserting that two of the principal's victims used to come for private tuition.
The two used to be taken out of the hostel at the nearby hill-lock with one pretext or another by Chinglen to satisfy his animalistic urge, the parents added.
Stating that the students were supposed to report to the hostel on January 1 which they declined due to the principal's misconduct, they confided that accompanied by members of the local youth clubs and women organisations the principal was informed about the disclosures of their wards.
With the principal confessing that he misbehaved with the male hostellers on several occasions at a joint session on January 2 he also pledged to hand over Rs 5 lakhs as compensation to the victims' families within January 5 .
However, it came to light that the principal had left the school on the same evening of the joint session, the parents maintained and informed that when they went to enquire at his residence the house was also found deserted subsequently leading to filing a complaint case at Kumbi police station.
Decision was also taken to remove L Chinglen as the principal besides rusticating him permanently from the locality.
His victims included students as young as only eight years.
Interacting with the newspersons, DESAM president M Angamba declared that Chinglen would be prohibited from returning to the teaching profession besides tracing him for the sake of justice.
Appealing to the parents to ensure that the victim students are not discriminated upon besides suggesting counselling if needed, the DESAM president also urged all concerned to exercise maximum restraint so that exemplary punishment is given to the culprit under law of the land.
Asking Chinglen to give in within three days, he also assured support of the student body if there is need for medical checking of the victims.
He further appealed to child rights activists to extend all possible assistance to the victim children.
