Imphal, December 15 2022: Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD&PR) Minister Yumnam Khemchand has called upon all the people to give up the notion that no Government jobs can be secured without bribery.

A computer typing (speed and accuracy) test was held today for recruitment of 84 posts to the RD&PR's DRDA.

The 84 posts include 49 posts of Office Assistant, seven posts of Stenographer (Grade III), seven drivers and 21 peons.

Objective type written test of 100 marks had already been conducted for drivers and peons.

Selection would be made based on the marks scored, Khemchand said.

After an objective type written test of 100 marks was held earlier for Office Assistants and Stenographers, a computer typing test was held today.

The minimum speed limit was 30 words per minute for General candidates and 25 words per minute for ST and SC candidates.

As the entire exam process was computerised without leaving any room for human interference, marks scored by the candidates were announced as soon as the test was over.

Score sheets were also distributed to the candidates.

Moreover, how many candidates cleared the exam and how many failed were also known immediately.

However, candidates appearing for the post of Stenographer are yet to give a short-hand test.

Even though the recruitment exam has been completed for other posts, it would take a couple of days to conduct a short-hand test for the post of Stenographers.

Speaking to media persons about the recruitment exam at the training hall of RD&PR, Porompat, Y Khemchand said that computerisation of exam process was a first step towards eradication of bribery in recruitment to Government jobs.

Claiming that the State Government led by Chief Minister N Biren has been working to eradicate corruption and ensure transparency, the RD&PR Minister pointed out that corruption often leads to severe demoralisation of meritorious youngsters.

After completing Class X, many students drop out from school/college as they have a notion that every Government job has a price tag and they have no money to bribe officials.

After dropping out from schools/colleges, many of these youngsters take to drugs and choose 'wrong paths', Khemchand further said.

In order to address this issue, a system has been launched to appoint the most qualified candidates to Government jobs, he said.

He said that results of the recruitment exams would be announced as soon as due approval is received from the Department of Personnel.

Some candidates said that they felt happy on seeing how the exam was conducted in a very transparent manner.
