Imphal, December 15 2022:
Leimarol Khorjeikol (LEIKOL) conferred the Chongtham Bimla-Basanta Award-2022 to author Prof Nongmaithem Tombi, in a function held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday.
The award carries a cash prize, a citation and an honorary shawl.
The function was attended by Planning Board deputy chairman and Lamsang MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen as chief guest, LEIKOL president Kshetrimayum Subadini as president and Manipur Language Advisory Board convenor Nongmaithem Kirankumar as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Rajen lauded the role played by authors, especially in rectifying the society's flaws.
He then assured of allocating some funds in the budget for the next financial year to alleviate the sufferings of writers/authors.
The MLA continued that every human civilisation has its own language, culture and tradition.
It is important for the present generation to preserve these legacies left behind by the forefathers.
In this regard, writers/authors play an important role through recording the same in writing and further spreading them to the future generation.
Without the presence of writers/authors, there will be no written records.
Thus, we need to encourage and uplift the writers/authors, he asserted.
In his speech, Prof N Tombi said that the emergence of different civil bodies in the state is a good step but there is need for the bodies to work together with regard to similar goals and objectives.
He then appreciated the efforts of LEIKOL and expressed belief that it will continue to do so in the future.
