Nemcha calls to stopping poppy cultivation

Textiles, commerce and industries minister Nemcha Kipgen has strongly advocated for enhancing and contributing to a healthier future on the auspicious occasion of C Zoulen Baptist Church, KBC No 22 and Women Department Diamond Jubilee celebration held in Saikul, Kangpokpi district, on Thursday.
The minister, who joined C Zoulen villagers in celebrating 60 years.of God's marvellous guidance since 1962, attended the event as chief guest while Rev James Jangkholen Haokip and Rev Dr Satminlen Khongsai were the dedicating ministers.
Minister Nemcha Kipgen released the Jubilee Souvenir after unveiling the Jubilee Gate and monolith which were dedicated by Rev James Jangkholen Kipgen and Rev Dr Satminlen Khongsai respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Nemcha said that it was the blessing of our forefathers' good deeds that we could establish our respective villages and settle in peace and celebrate this auspicious occasion.
She continued that we have already lost our forefathers' respect towards the landand their ways Of giving back to nature which will give a destructive impact on the next generation if not mended while there is time.
The minister also pointed out that our forefathers never indulged in polluting our land by cultivating unhealthy plants but now we have polluted almost all of our land with the practice of cultivating poppy and other substances.
"We need to stop such practice to help the new generation to eat and drink better and also to enhance the quality of life while it is our duty and responsibility to contribute to a healthier future as our forefathers did for us", asserted the minister.
While congratulating the people of C Zoulen and the village chief for organising the function, the minister urged them to be thankful to their forefathers as all the blessings they received today are all because of their forefathers' good deeds.
Noted Kuki gospel artistes such as Kimngaisang, Boijang, Lunngaineng, and others enthralled the crowd with their melodious voices while L Chajang and C Zoulen cultural troupe performed a mesmerizing cultural dance on the occasion.
Earlier, the congregation paid fitting tributes and homage to the departed members of the church and the women's department while beating of traditional gong 60 times by the guests, ministers, church leaders, etc., marked the occasion.
The event culminated with a Jubilee feast.
