Imphal, December 15 2022:
Strange it may sound but it is a fact that there is only one teacher at Ningthi Govt Junior High School, Kamjong district.
The contractor and labourers who started construction of the school building in 2016-17 abandoned the project incomplete and they never came back.
The school established in 1950 has only one Arts Graduate Teacher namely AS Leishimwung and he is also the Headmaster in-charge.
Primary teacher Luingam Jajo and matron AS Rita have been working at the school under the Headmaster in-charge but it has been quite a long time since Luingam Jajo has been utilised at the office of ZEO Ukhrul.
Ningthi Govt Junior High School was upgraded in 2014-15 and Classes IX and X were added but the upgradation did not serve any purpose due to absence of proper building.

In the absence of proper building for Ningthi Govt Junior High School which is crippled by acute shortage of teaching staff, children from nearby villages like Hangkou, Apong, Lousing, Sampui etc who used to study at the school have shifted to other schools.
Still, around 105 children of Ningthi village are studying at the school.
Driven by a strong conviction that their children should not be deprived of education on account of absence of proper building and shortage of teachers, the villagers constructed a humble classroom and hired eight teachers at their own expense.
Ningthi Village Authority member Lovejoy Shimray told The Sangai Express that it has been quite a long time that the villagers have been paying the hired salaries out of their contributions.
As some villagers can no longer afford the contributions, they have stopped sending their children to the school, Lovejoy said.
The villagers were quite happy when the authorities started constructing a school building in 2016-17 and its estimated cost was around Rs 70 lakh.
The sub-contractor as well as the labourers left the village without completing the building which should have 10 classrooms and they never came back, Lovejoy said.
He then appealed to the authorities concerned to come to Ningthi village and see directly how the villagers have been struggling hard to pay the monthly salaries of the hired teachers.
They may also see the contrast between the infrastructure of Ningthi Govt Junior High School and schools located at Imphal, he added.
He further sought immediate attention of Chief Minister N Biren to the sorry state of the school.
