Assembly refers ADC Bill to HAC

Imphal, August 05 2022: The Manipur Legislative Assembly today passed the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils (6th Amendment) Bill 2022 but the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils (7th Amendment) Bill 2022 was referred to the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) .

The two amendment Bills which were introduced in the House on August 2 by Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Letpao Haokip were tabled in the House today for discussion and passage.

Letpao Haokip first tabled the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils (6th Amendment) Bill 2022 and urged the Members of the House to pass the Bill.

As the Speaker initiated due proceedings to pass the Bill, Th Lokeshwar pointed out certain flaws in the Bill and sought correction of the same.

As suggested by the Congress MLA, the amendment Bill was modified/corrected before it was passed by the House.

Pointing out that there are certain technical errors, Letpao Haokip maintained that the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils (7th Amendment) Bill 2022, however, needs re-examination.

He then requested the Speaker to refer the same Bill to the Hill Areas Committee.

Subsequently, the Speaker referred the same Bill to the HAC.
