Minister Awangbow inaugurates irrigation pumps

Water Resource and Relief & Disaster Management minister Awangbow Newmai on Friday inaugurated 7 pumps at Pump House 1 of Loktak Lift Irrigation, Bishnupur in the presence of Works and YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam, PHE minister L Susindro Meitei and Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Awangbow informed that under the initiative of chief minister N Biren and minister Letpao Haokip, the machines were installed.
He stated that the revival of the state's major irrigation projects to facilitate multiple cropping is a step towards achieving self-sufficiency in food grain production.
The minister also informed that the Phase II of LUP for supplying irrigation water to Imphal High Level Canal (IHLC) and Mdirang High Level Canal (MHLC) is under process and is expected to be completed very soon.
The department is trying its best to supply irrigation water through high canals in the next season, the minister said, adding that the problems faced by the farmers regarding water shortage have been solved now.
In his address, Works minister Govindas Konthoujam said that the problems of water faced by the people of Bishnupur AC, part of Moirang AC and part of Oinam AC will now be solved with the installation of Pump House 1.He also said that if the irrigation system is good, the economy of the state will improve.
On the other-hand, PHE minister L Susindro said that Loktak Lift Irrigation Project is the most important and valuable project and under the initiative of CM N Biren, the remaining work of Loktak Lift Irrigation Project will be taken up at the earliest.
He added that the water shortage faced by the farmer has been solved and exuded confidence that food production will now be increased in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Shanti expressed belief that under the initiative of CM N Biren there will be mass production of food grain in the state with the installation of the pumps.
WRD commissioner T Ranjit Singh, Water Resource Department chief engineer G Robindro Sharma and staff of the department also attended the programme.
