Awangbow Newmai inaugurates 7 pumps of Loktak Lift Irrigation

Water Resource and Relief & Disaster ManagementMinister, Awangbow Newmai on Thursday inaugurated 7 pumps which were renovated and installed at Pump House 1, Bishnupur of Loktak Lift Irrigation.
The pumps were inaugurated in the presence of Works & YAS Minister, Govindas Konthoujam; PHED Minister, L Sushindro Meitei and Moirang AC MLA, Thongam Shanti Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Awangbow Newmai stated that revival of the State's major water irrigation project is one way of pushing the agricultural lands for self-sufficiency in food grain production.
The Minister assured that the Phase II of LLIP for giving irrigation water to Imphal High Level Canal (IHLC) and Moirang High Level Canal (MHLC) is under process and is expected to be completed soon.
He also mentioned that the Department is trying its best to supply irrigation water through High Canals in the next season.
"The problems of water faced by the people of Bishnupur AC, part of Moirang AC and part of Oinam AC will now be solved with the installation of Pump House 1", said Govindas Konthoujam while adding that if the irrigation system is good, economy of the state will improve.
Highlighting the importance of Loktak Lift Irrigation Project, L Sushindro informed that under the initiative of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, remaining work of Loktak Lift Irrigation Project will be taken up at the earliest.
"Under the initiative of N Biren Singh, there will be mass production of food grain in the State with the installation of the pumps", said Th Shanti Singh.
WRD Commissioner, T Ranjit Singh; Water Resource, Chief Engineer, G Robindro Sharma; officials and staff of Water Resources Department also attended the programme.
