Taekwondo, sepaktakraw athletes continue Manipur's gold winning spree

Manipur's gold medal spree continued as the state taekwondo athletes and sepaktakraw players grabbed six gold medals combined on the fourth day of the 3rd North East Games 2024 at NAP ground, Chumoukedima, Nagaland.
In taekwondo, Manipur asserted dominance by winning three gold, one silver and one bronze medals in the Thursday's competition.
Salam Charlie Devi, Priyadarshini Mayengbam and Pangambam Bope Singh dished out remarkable performances to claim three gold medals for the state.
Salam Charlie got the better of Lalrinng-heti Sailo of Mizoram in the women's -53kg final duel to clinch her yellow metal.
On the other hand, Priyadarshini Mayengbam who was up against Thapana Handiqie in the women's -46kg summit clash beat her Assamese opponent for gold medal, while Pangambam Bope won the men's -63kg event after defeating Lalhmingsanga of Mizoram.
Kangujam Milan Singh, meanwhile, settled for silver medal after losing out to Ankur of Nagaland in the men's -73kg final.
Kharib-am Chanchan Devi finished third in the women's -57kg category to bag bronze medal.
Manipur's sepaktakraw players too had a held day as the men's team won both quad and regu gold medals, while the women's squad clinched the quad gold, but settled for silver medal in the regu event.
In the men's quad event final, Manipur outdid Nagaland 15-7, 9-15, 15-13 .
They reached the final after beating Mizoram 15-5, 17-15 and Assam 15-6, 15-8.The men's regu team, on the other hand, defeated Assam 15-8, 15-13 to seal the gold medal.
The women's quad team outplayed Nagaland 15-6, 11-15, 17-15 in the final for their gold medal.
On their way to the women's quad final, Manipur beat Assam 15-5, 15-6, Nagaland 17-16, 15-3 and Assam 15-9, 17-15 .
Meanwhile, the state lost 10-15, 12-15 to Nagaland in their gold-medal match in the women's regu event.
Manipur's pencak silat team collected five more medals to close out their campaign on a high note.
On the final day of the pencak silat competition, the state team got two more silver medals courtesy of A Rohit Meitei (75-80kg) and Y Sumanta (85-95kg), and three bronze medals through K Premkumar (80-85kg), Kh Basantakumar (90-95kg) and N Opesh (95-100kg).Overall, the state pencak silat team collected 20 medals, including six gold, five silver and nine bronze.
In boxing, five in men's event and three in women's event booked gold-medal bouts.
Chinglemba (51kg), Jackson (54kg), Kingson (57kg), Chinglemba Moirangthem (63.5kg), Rahul (85kg), Bhumabati (50kg), Bindya (63kg) and Silky (75kg) prevailed in their respective semifinal matches on Thursday.
In the semifinals, Chinglemba beat Vanlalhriatchunga (Mizoram), Jackson beat VL Dinpuia (Mizoram), Vanlalruatpuia (Mizoram), Chinglemba M beat Sukleswar (Nagaland), Rahul beat Jyoti Kalita (Assam), Bhumabati beat Gorayallung (Arunachal), Bindya beat Rudy (Mizoram) and Silky beat Gitimi Gogoi (Assam).
As per an updated medal tally at 6 pm on Day 4, Nagaland led the standings, clinching a total of 84 medals (39 gold, 17 silver and 28 bronze) as Manipur trailed behind with 72 medals (27 gold, 18 silver, 27 bronze), followed by Assam (22 gold, 36 silver, 22 bronze), Arunachal Pradesh (4 gold, 8 silver, 17 bronze), Mizoram (4 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze), Meghalaya (2 gold, 8 silver, 27 bronze), Sikkim (2 gold, 3 silver, 12 bronze) and Tripura (1 gold, 6 silver, 9 bronze) .
