Mixed martial artist, folk singer felicitated

Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) felicitated mixed martial artist Chungreng Koireng alias the 'Indian Rhino' who clinched the title of Interim Bantamweight Champion at the Matrix Fight Night (MFN-14) held at Greater Noida on March 9, in a function held at Kamu Koireng village on Thursday.
ICHAM team led by its advisor Nongthombam Rajendro and president Yuima Horam visited the native village of Chungreng Koireng at Kamu Koireng village in Senapati district and felicitated the fighter and also provided monetary assistance of Rs 50,000.Speaking on the occasion, Rajendro expressed delight that Chungreng brought laurels for the state amid the distressful situation in the state.
While declaring that ICHAM will extend all possible help to Chungreng to follow his passion and assist in the construction of his home, Rajendro also encouraged the fighter to remain focused and bring more laurels for the state.
Chungreng Koireng, who is father of two kids and has been into mix martial arts with a sense of dedication, said that his family lives from hand to mouth and had to face various problems in pursuing the sports.
However, with dedication, he continued despite all odds.
Meanwhile, folk singer Benita Laishram, who is participating at the Bharat Ka Amrit Kalash, India's first and biggest folk singing reality show, was accorded a warm welcome by the people of Achanbigei at Imphal Airport, on Thursday.
Benita of Achanbigei Mayai Leikai, has completed Masters in Manipuri Dance from Manipur University and is currently pursuing PG course in Lai Haraoba at JN Manipur Dance Academy.
Interacting with the media, Benita said that reached the Grand Finale of the first and biggest folk singing reality show of the country after emerging among the top five contenders.
Percussionist Robert Irom, who accompanied Benita in the reality show, said that Bharat Ka Amrit Kalash' is one of its kind event for folk songs.
He expressed happiness on representing Manipur in the national event.
