Awareness programme expounds on prevention, control and impact of forest fires on environment

Bishnupur, March 21 2024:
Bishnupur Forest Division organised a one-day awareness programme on "Forest Fire; its prevention & control and also its impact on Wild Life" under Centrally Sponsored Scheme: Forest Fire Prevention & Management Scheme, Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Government of India.
According to a press release issued by the Bishnupur Forest Division, the programme was conducted to spread awareness about the impact of ever-in-creasing incidents of man-made forest fires on the environment and to build awareness and appreciation among the youth on the importance of forest.
More than 50 students along with Joint Forest Management Committee members, NTFPs collectors, NGOs etc actively participated in the awareness programme.
While addressing the gathering, Divisional Forest Officer Waikhom Romabai emphasized upon the need to join hands with all the stakeholders including NGOs working in the field of forests, wildlife and environment in combating forest fire.
She further added that forest fire is the major cause for increased deforestation and degradation of forest areas in the State.
Furthermore, she wished all the participants a joyous International Day of Forests which is celebrated on March 21 of every year with the theme of 2024 being "Forests and innovation: New solutions for a better world".
Technical sessions on "Impact of forest fire on wildlife", "Combating forest fire - a forester's perspective" and "Fire prevention and control" were delivered by speakers namely, Mutum Nilamani Singh, RFO, Bishnupur Range; Elangbam Premjit, Secretary, Wildlife Explorer; Th Rajesh, Forester, Bishnupur Forest Division and representatives of Fire Service, Bishnupur.
Representatives of Fire Service, Bishnupur also gave demonstrations on prevention and control of fire.
