Wildfire prevention, wildlife conservation awareness held

Bishnupur, March 21 2024:
Bishnupur Forest Division on Thursday organised wildfire prevention cum wildlife conservation awareness programme at Kiyamba Ningshing Shanglen in Bishnupur district.
The programme organised under the central-sponsored scheme of Forest Fire Prevention and Management Scheme 2023-24, Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, commenced with a rally participated by students of TG English School.
Bishnupur divisional forest officer (DFO) Waikhom Rom-abai Devi and Moirang Fire Sub Station OC Ch Ranjitkumar Singh attended the programme as chief guest and president respectively.
DFO Romabai Devi advised the locals that in case of any wildfire incident the closest Fire Service must be informed immediately as wildfires if allowed to spread not only harm the inhabitant flora and fauna but also adversely affect the ecological balance.
As part of the programme, Wildfire Explorer Manipur E Premjit talked on 'Impact of Forest Fire on Wildlife' while Bishnupur Forest Division forester Th Rajesh deliberated on 'Combatting Forest Fire- A Foresters Perspective'.
A demonstration on 'Fire Prevention and Control' was also presented.
