World Hearing Day observed in state

Imphal, March 21 2024:
The World Hearing Day-2024 was held under the joint aegis of National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD) and Manipur State Health Society at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) hall, Lamphelpat, on Thursday.
Speaking at the function held under the theme "Changing Mindsets: Let's make ear and hearing care a reality for all", Health Services director Dr O Sanah-anbi Devi noted that there are many people who suffer from hearing disability but are reluctant to consult with medical professionals due to shyness and fear of social stigma.
If people suffering hearing loss come out and get treated early, the problem can be solved to a great extent, she said.
The director further informed that millions of people across the world are suffering from hearing loss with the WHO predicting that one out of every 10 persons will suffer from hearing loss by 2050.Such cases can be prevented from happening if it is treated early, she stressed.
The function was also attended by Health Services additional director Dr N Hemantakumar and RIMS department of Otorhinolaryngology head Dr Th Sud-heeranjan.
