Imphal, February 10, 2011:
Taking serious note of the remarks made by Director of Census Operations Y Thamkishore Singh on Census 2011, the Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Senapati has denounced the remarks as 'irresponsible and discriminative' and said that such acts manifest the vivid scene of underestimating the innate rights of the hill people, and thus provoking communal antagonism among the people of the State.
In a statement issued by its president M Dili, NPO said that the misleading remarks of the Census Director was unfortunate and uncalled for, when the district has been severely affected even today on all the development fronts due to repeated cancellation of the 2001 census and the ongoing 2011 census.
Such act professed by the concerned department as a machinery and authority is to destroy the identity of the tribals in Manipur, specially in Senapati district, NPO alleged, adding that instead of initiating positive measures to revive the cancelled 2001 census and improve the present 2011 census operation, the department has been become a tool of suppressing the voice and basic rights of the hill people by terming it as abnormal and duplication of census.
