Imphal, February 10, 2011:
All Manipur Anti-drug Association (AMADA) has donated medicines for use during the 15-day free detoxification camp being held at Lungcreiphung village in Ukhrul district.
a total of 14 drug-dependent individuals are being treated at the camp, which was inaugurated today under the joint aegis of AMADA, Community-based Drug AIDS Programme and Diocesan Social Sevice Society at Lungcreiphung Primary School.
According to a camp patient, indulgence in drug began through inhaling of smoke of dried poppy extract (juice), which could be procured at about Rs 1000 for a can of khaini.
Even though initial use of the poppy extract enabled one to work in the field with ease, prolonged use of the same resulted in fatigue, he said.
Speaking at the occasion, AMADA functionaries exhorted the youths to desist from indulgence in drug use and sought cooperation of the general public in eradicating the menace from the society.
