Imphal, February 10, 2011:
A mob barged into an AR post on Thursday and confronted with the AR personnel, after two women were hit and killed by a water tanker of the security force.
The mob blocked NH 39 at Lilong.
According to reports, a water tanker of the AR going towards its post knocked down an auto-rickshaw in front of the Lilong PS, killing two women occupants and injuring five occupants including the driver today around 9.30 am.
Phaheda Bibi (54) wife of Md Ishat Ali of Sangai Yumpham Sabal Leikai died at the spot while Rahena Bibi (45) was declared brought dead at a hospital where she was rushed along with the five injured people.
The injured persons were auto-driver Md Nasaruddin (52) of Sangaiyumpham Idinga, Md Ishup Ali (60) of Atongba Khul, Md Maniruddin (50), his younger brother Md Maheibi (45) and Md Biram (10) son of Hajao.
They were coming together in an Auto-rickshaw (MN05-8024) from their village towards Imphal.
A source from the AR said the deceased women fell down from the auto which was coming in a high speed as the auto driver braked to avoid a collision with the water tanker which was about to enter the AR post.
However, the mob rose as the AR denied charges of involvement any of its vehicles in the incident.
The mob barged into the post located adjacent to the Lilong PS where they found blood on a rear tyre of the water tanker (ML-05E-500). However, AR refuted the charge and said that they are ready to co-operate with the police.
Police seized the vehicle belonging to 28 AR after registering a case.
The blockade was lifted after police announced the seizure of the vehicle around 12.30 pm.
It is said AR authorities have admitted their involvement and assured of paying compensation to the deceased and the injured victims.
