NCB destroys poppy

Imphal, February 10, 2011:
Under the supervision of Regional Director, NCB a joint team consisting of NCB, AMADA and 1/11 GR destroyed around 68 acres of poppy cultivation in Thingchom, Saidang hill range in Ccpur district yesterday.
In a press release issued by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) stated that the approximate value of the destroyed poppy plants was around Rs.4.48 crore.
Prior to this NCB and AMADA had also destroyed poppy plants in Thinghanzang, New Saikot and Solpizang villages in Ccpur worth around Rs.4.26 crores on January 12 and 13, 2011.The team had also destroyed poppy plants at Kangchup hills worth around Rs.1.65 crore on January 29 and 30 this year.
The press release further said that the NCB unit is determined to root out illegal cultivation of poppy plants in Manipur.
