Cop killed, 4 hurt in grenade attack

Imphal, February 10, 2011:
One Havildar of 7th Bn Manipur Rifles (MR) has been killed while two civilians and two other MR personnel sustained injuries in a grenade attack by unidentified persons at the residence of an Executive Engineer of Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) today.
The unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade at the Singjamei Chongtham Leikai residence of IFCD (Flood Control) Division I Chongtham Ranbir at about 4 this afternoon.
It was the fourth time that Executive Engineer's residence has come under grenade attack.
Today's attack took place minutes after Ranbir returned from office.
The Havildar killed in the grenade explosion has been identified as Khaidem Muhi (50) of Sugnu Bazar.
He was declared brought dead at JNIMS.
He was also escort commander of the EE.
The injured MR personnel have been identified as Rifleman Moirangthem Ingocha (45) of Tentha Khunou and Rifleman Mutum Guno (36) of Kongba Khunou.
The two injured civilians are Shah Jahan (22) of Khekman but staying at Hatta and Md Amusana (24) of Hatta Mana Ingkhol.
The two are carpenters working at the residence of EE Chongtham Ranbir.
All the four injured victims were rushed to JNIMS.
It is reported that all of them are out of danger.

In addition to hurling the bomb, the assailants also fired some rounds of shots at the residence of the EE which was responded by the security escorts.
It is reported that EE Ranbir was threatened with strong words by KCP (Noyon) sometime back.
He was also under immense pressure from other UG groups.
On the otherhand, a hand grenade was found at the residence of Wahengbam Nilamani of Nongmeibung Chakpram Leirak this afternoon.
