Entrepreneur sails smoothly

Driven by the passion to become an entrepreneur and promote seasonal fruits of Manipur, Sachin Kshetrimayum who started his food processing venture with a meagre investment now employs more than a dozen of people.
Now 46 and a resident of Sagolband Sayang Kurao Makhong, Sachin started his food processing venture by establishing Kanglei Food Industry- Taojing Heira by making fruit candies and pickles from the locally grown seasonal fruits.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Sachin said that he started Taojing Heira in 2015 at his home with his wife Paleima by procuring Rs 200 worth of fresh gooseberries.
Sachin said that he started selling candies and dry pickles in the neighbourhood shops first.
Saying that he expanded his business over time by saving the profit he made, the entrepreneur continued that he didn't attend any training programme on candy and pickle making but love reading about the art of cooking and food recipes.
Taojing Heira produces 16 fruit candies and pickles and its prices vary from Rs 5 to Rs 60 per packet, he said and added that he has also started making bamboo shoot pickle, mushroom pickle, u-morok pickle, u-morok and hawaijar pickle, u-morok and fermented fish pickle and chicken pickle among others.
Saying that he used to procure the raw materials from the markets, he added that traders from Mao, Senapati and Ukhrul now deliver the seasonal fruits directly at his house.
Sachin continued that the dryers he has been using in his food processing venture wasn't bought but assembled by him.
He now employs 15 people.
Sachin said he used to employ 31 people in the pre Covid pandemic days.
There are also hawkers who work on commission basis per delivery, Sachin said and added that he makes a little over Rs 1 lakh by selling pickles and candies.
Sachin said that he is happy to play a small part in promoting the seasonal fruits of Manipur and the local farmers.
