Imphal, November 01 2026:
AMUCO and four other organisations namely; AMAWOVA, PLMPAM, COHR and MSF have urged the State Government to persuade the Government of India to start the process of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) with 1951 as the base year at the earliest.
A protest demonstration was staged today at Lamsang Bazar at the initiative of the organisations.
The protest was a continuation of the ongoing movement spearheaded by the five organisations.
The five organisations led by AMUCO have been demanding initiation of the process of updating the NRC, annulment of SIR 2026, resettlement of IDPs and repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 .

Speaking at the protest demonstration, AMUCO president and convenor of the five organisations Sanjoy Sorokhaibam said that the prolonged violence seen in Manipur since May 2023 is an outcome of the Government of India's alleged repressive policies.
Accusing the Government of India of plotting constantly to create permanent divisions among the communities living together in Manipur, he said that the people of Manipur can no longer put any faith in the Government of India.
It's time for all the people to join hands and stand firm against the proxy war being waged, Sanjoy said.
He called upon all sections of people to carry on different modes of agitation until the Government of India and the State Government listen to the people's voice and there is peace in the State.
It seems the Government of India has no intention to listen to the people's voice or address their grievances; rather it is poised to unleash all kinds of repressive measures against the people, he said.
The people of Manipur will not remain silent to any such diabolic policies of the Government of India.
"We will launch strong mass movements.
We will not tolerate any attempt to break Manipur or create divisions among communities.
The Government of India must listen to the grievances of IDPs", Sanjoy said.
He also appealed to the State Government to discharge its duties responsibly and instill a sense of security among the masses.
