Senapati, November 01 2026:
Alleging procedural lapses, the Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has questioned the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the bodies of the two missing Kuki individuals from SP Road in Senapati.
Addressing a press conference at its office, NPO president Kuba Peter stated that they condemn all forms of killing, irrespective of the community or identity of the victims.
However, he said the circumstances surrounding the reported recovery of the bodies in Senapati raise serious questions that could not be ignored.
Referring to the legal procedures under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the NPO president questioned whether the Executive Magistrate concerned and district authorities had been informed, as required under Section 194, and whether a proper inquest had been conducted in the presence of local inhabitants as witnesses.
He also alleged contradictions in reports regarding the time of recovery.
According to a certain report, the bodies were recovered at around 5.30 am on Saturday, while police reports indicated that the recovery took place on Sunday morning, he said.
He said the contradiction raise serious concerns about the actual sequence of events and transparency of the investigation.
The NPO also raised serious concerns over the role of Additional SP (Law and Order), Senapati, Thangkhochon Haokip, whose alleged impartiality in handling sensitive communal matters had previously been questioned.
"What role did he play in this operation ? Was the recovery conducted strictly according to law, or was there any attempt to stage-manage the circumstances to shift responsibility and victimise the people of Senapati in particular and the Nagas in general ?" the NPO president asked.
He maintained that these questions warranted an independent investigation rather than speculation.
He demanded an impartial, transparent and independent investigation to establish the truth, ensure accountability and prevent further communal tensions.
