CME on 'Antimicrobial Stewardship' held

RIMS Hospital, Imphal and ICMR, New Delhi today jointly organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on 'Antimicrobial Stewardship' at Conference Hall, NICU Annexe, Casualty Block, RIMS, Imphal.
The programme was attended by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal and Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam, Dean (Academic), RIMS, Imphal as presidium members, said a release issued by RIMS.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar stated that Antimicrobial Stewardship is a coordinated programme that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.

"It is the effort to measure and improve how antibiotics are prescribed by clinicians and used by patients", he added.
Prof G Sunil Kumar also asserted that improving antibiotic prescribing and use is critical to effectively treat infections, protect patients from harms caused by unnecessary antibiotic use, and combat antibiotic resistance.
As part of the programme, a book on "RIMS Antibiotic Policy- 3rd Edition" was also released.
Doctors, students and staff of RIMS Imphal attended the CME.
