Regional convention on millets concludes

The valedictory function of "The Regional Convention of North Eastern States on the Available Millets in North Eastern Region of Bharat and its Benefit in Nutrition, MDM, Anganwadis and Take Home Raashan" was held yesterday at the auditorium of College of Agriculture (CoA), Iroisemba, Imphal.
The two-days long convention was jointly organised by Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), New Delhi.
The function was graced by Dr Lalita Mohan Garnayak, Director of Research; Dr TR Sharma, Registrar, Dr Ng Iboyaima Singh, Dean, College of Food Technology, Lamphelpat; Dr Ram Singh, Dean, CoA, Krydemkulai; Professor Indira Sarangthem, Dean,Prof Indira Sarangthem, Dean, CoA, CAU, Imphal and Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal.

At the event, Dr Lalita Mohan Garnayak spoke on the significant role of millets in enhancing food and nutritional security and income of the small scale farmers.
Prof Indira spoke at length on the various benefits of including millets in our diet.
She also stressed the need to incorporate millet diets for children, considering its high nutritious value and said that millet has the potential to mitigate malnutrition amongst children.
Dr TR Sharma, Dr Ram Singh and Dr Ng Iboyaima Singh also spoke on various topics related to millets.
CDPOs, supervisors, Anganwadi workers and Asha workers also participated in the Convention and expressed their views and provided feedback on the convention.
Best stall awards were presented to Blue Ocean Academy in the private organisation category while College of Food Technology received the best stall award in Government organisation.
