JNIMS sit-in protests harassment

Imphal, March 06 2024:
Doctors and medical students of Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest against alleged harassment of the medical fraternity.
During the sit-in, the protestors held placards inscribed with slogans, "Stop False Allegation", "Stop Harassment", "Stop Extortion", "Need stress-free work environment", "Stop violence against medical fraternity", and "Save workplace environment".
Speaking on the sidelines, a senior resident of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department appealed to all concerned to stop blaming doctors and hospital staff as and when a patient dies, extortion of money and interference in healthcare service.
The resident then condemned a recent incident wherein the patient party blamed the doctors for the death of pregnant woman after delivery and insisted on payment of compensatory penalty instead of following post mortem protocol to find the cause of death.
Chipping in another lady senior doctor clarified that the protest was not directed against any specific community or individual but to highlight doctors and staff unfairly held accountable in cases of mishaps or patient deaths.
She also urged the public to stand in solidarity with the medical professionals, and enable them carry out their duties effectively and fearlessly in the future.
Another protesting doctor said that the biggest joy of being a doctor is to see recovery of patient.
Pointing out that birth-related complications are a global phenomenon as well as concerns, the doctor suggested that instead of blaming and harassing doctors and hospital staff parties concerned extend cooperation to aid the concentrate in discharging their duty.
Meanwhile, patients encountered inconveniences as the doctors and medical students launched the impromptu strike near the office of JNIMS superintendent with prominent display of a banner inscribed "Sit-in protest against the harassment of the medical fraternity" .
