MMTU urges Govt to send recommendations

Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union (MMTU) has again urged the State Government to send its recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei community in the ST list to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs at the earliest.
Thokchom Rupanjali, convenor, MMTU Women Wing made the appeal while addressing media persons during a press conference at MMTU Office located at Wangkhei Khunou today.
Rupanjali pointed out that the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs had sent a letter requesting the Manipur Government to send specific recommendations for inclusion of Meeteis in the ST list, recent socio-economic survey and ethnographic study in 2013 and on other occasions.
However, the State Government has not sent their recommendations and the necessary documents to the Ministry till date, she maintained.
Urging the Govt to send the recommendation and the necessary documents to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Rupanjali cautioned that the people's frustration might be reflected in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024 otherwise.
The MMTU Women Wing convenor also extended her gratitude to MLA Th Lokeshwar for raising a motion to discuss the inclusion of Meeteis/Meiteis in the ST list in the Assembly.
