Continuing medical education prog held

A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on "Antimicrobial Stewardship" was jointly organised by RIMS Hospital, Imphal & ICMR, New Delhi at the conference hall of NICU Annexe, Casualty Block, RIMS on Wednesday RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, MS Prof N Sanjib Singh, and dean (Academic) Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam were respectively chief guest, president and guest of honour of the programme also attended by doctors, students and staff of RIMS.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Sunil stated that Antimicrobial Stewardship is a coordinated programme that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug- resistant organisms.
It is the effort to measure and improve how antibiotics are prescribed by clinicians and used by patients, he added.
He then said that improving antibiotic prescribing and use is critical to effectively treat infections, protect patients from harms caused by unnecessary antibiotic use, and combat antibiotic resistance.
During the programme, the dignitaries released a book on "RIMS Antibiotic Policy- 3rd Edition" .
