Imphal, November 02 2026:
Social activist Malem Thongam will embark on a 15,555 km cycle journey covering 22 States from January 3, 2027, to spread the message of peace and protection of human lives in Manipur.
The journey will begin from the historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, and culminate in Mizoram after 272 days.
A fundraising programme for the historic expedition was launched today at Ibudhou Marjing Khubam, Heingang Ching, Imphal East.
The programme was organised by Thawai Meerel, which is taking full responsibility for the journey and its logistics.
Speaking at the launch, Editors Guild Manipur president Khogendra Khomdram said Malem Thongam had earlier undertaken a Delhi-to-Manipur cycle rally for peace, drawing national attention to the State's crisis.
He said this new journey is significant not only for its distance but also for taking the message of Manipur's conflict and need for peace to people in other States.
General secretary of Thawai Meerel, Paonam Sanahanbi said public support is being sought for the 272-day journey as it involves huge resources.
She said two persons will accompany Malem Thongam to provide support throughout the expedition.
She further informed that Malem Thongam's book titled "Unnoticed Peace Journey", documenting his earlier peace initiatives, will be released in Kolkata on December 19 ahead of the pan-India cycle yatra.
