Kuki militants launch fresh offensive

Heavily armed Kuki militants launched a fresh offensive at Chairel Mangjin hills, Bishnupur district.
Notably, Chairel Mangjin is located adjacent to Khoijumantabi where three village volunteers were killed by Kuki militants in the most brutal manner in the intervening night of July 1 and 2 .
Since July 2, Khoijumantabi and Chairel Mangjin have been witnessing gun battles on a daily basis.
Launching a fresh offensive, Kuki militants fired automatic rifles as well as mortar shells toward Chairel Mangjin at around 11.40 pm yesterday.
The Kuki militants again fired indiscriminately at the village at around 10.30 am today, resulting in an exchange of fire which lasted for around 20 minutes.
For the third time within 24 hours, Chairel Mangjin came under heavy attack from Kuki militants at around 4.40 pm today.
Apart from firing from automatic rifles, the Kuki militants also fired mortar shells.
Police commandos and village volunteers retaliated.
Even though the gun battle was going on till the time of filing this report, there was no report of any casualty.
BSF troops also repulsed an attack launched by Kuki militants at Khoijumantabi today.
Speaking to The Sangai Express a well placed source said that a platoon of the BSF was deployed at Khoijumantabi today and while the personnel were putting up their bunkers they were fired upon by the Kuki militants at about 2.10 pm.
The BSF troops returned fire using Medium Machine Gun (MMG), said the source and added that thereafter the Kuki militants fled from the area.
There is no report of any injury.
