Imphal, July 17 2023:
A large number of womenfolk who were marching to the Chief Minister's Office to talk with the Chief Minister on the ongoing crisis were stopped by police at Singjamei Chingamakhong.
Even though the womenfolk were not allowed to proceed further, they sat down in the middle of the highway and staged a demonstration there.
Thawai Mirel was the main organiser of the march which started from its office located at Singjamei-Kongba Road at around 10.30 am.
Notably, mothers of nine men who were killed by Kuki militants at Khamenlok also took part in the march.
As the womenfolk were stopped by police at Singjamei Chingamakhong, they demanded an audience with the Chief Minister.

The womenfolk said that either they must be allowed to proceed to the CM's office or Chief Minister N Biren should come to them and listen to their grievances.
As police assured that the same demand would be attended positively, the womenfolk sat down in the middle of the road, awaiting the Chief Minister or his reply.
Imphal West district police as well as Central forces kept a strict vigil in the area so as to avoid any untoward incident.
The womenfolk numbering hundreds and holding the Tricolour continued their agitation till late evening.
Because of the agitation, NH-102 was blocked at Singjamei and traffic was diverted.
In the course of the protest demonstration, the womenfolk shouted many slogans like "There should not be two administrations in Manipur", "Wipe out Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists", "Integrity of Manipur is non-negotiable", "Hail Manipur" etc.
One woman leader expressed strong resentment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's complete silence on the more than two months old Manipur crisis.
She said that they would never go back until they are allowed to proceed to the Chief Minister's office or N Biren himself comes to them there.
Questioning the failure of the MLAs to work collectively and take a common decision, the woman leader asked as to why the Government is still doing nothing to control the situation even after knowing that the violent crisis was engineered by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists and illegal immigrants.
The womenfolk were still gathered at Chingamakhong at the time of filing this report late in the evening today.
