Imphal, July 17 2023:
Meira Paibi from different parts of Imphal area gathered in front of Kang la western gate and held a demonstration denouncing failure of the government to end the humanitarian crisis besieging the state.
Interacting with the media, Meira Paibi leader Nganbi contended that Manipur is burning due to the divide and rule.policy of the Central government, which has betrayed its assurance to uphold the territory of the state at the time of merger.
Allowing the violence to continue and giving more ground for bifurcation of the state would only create irreparable animosity among the people of Manipur, she said.
She strongly condemned alleged inaction of central security forces against the persistent attacks by Kuki militants and demanded the government to withdraw all the central security forces if they are not doing anything to control the situation.
Despite deployment of large numbers of central security forces, incidents of attacks and counterattacks are happening in the state.
The cycle of violence has severely affected the state's economy and common people, while farmers and daily wagers are facing a tough situation in the absence of income generation opportunities, Nganbi said.
On the other hand, drug trafficking, drug manufacturing and illegal poppy plantation have also severely affected the youths and state well as the natural ecosystem.
Manipur is facing the adverse impact of climate change due to mass deforestation in the hills mainly for large scale poppy plantation.
In such situation, the common people can no longer remain silent and endure the suffering.
Moreover, the crisis has also threatened the territorial integrity of the state and people of the state can never accept bifurcation of the state under any circumstances, she pointed.
