Highway blocked to demand release of 19 arrested

Imphal, July 17 2023:
Protestors on Monday blocked the Imphal-Di-mapur section of the NH-2 in different stretches demanding the unconditional release of the 19 people arrested by police in connection with the torching of three trucks of M/s Misao Gas Agency at Sekmai on July 15 At about 6am Monday, large number of the local Meira Paibis congregated at Sekmai Bazar and squatted on the road to block the route.
Meira Paibis in Koirengei area also blocked the road demanding the unconditional release of the 19 people arrested by police.
It may be recalled that an announcement had been made previously to enforce indefinite shutdown of the Imphal-Dimapur road if the 19 people arrested by com bined forces in connection with the torching of three trucks were not released by Sunday night.
Mention may also be made here that the 19 arrested people were produced before JMIC Imphal West - I on Sunday, which remanded them to police custody till July 19 .
Amongst the 19, two were found to underage and thus, have been placed in an observation home.
