Army convoy checked, 3 hurt in late night clashes

Situation remained tense in the valley area, mainly in Bishnupur and Imphal West district on Monday evening till late night as Meira Paibi came out to the streets in large number and started checking army convoy.
Source said that Meira Paibi members blocked an army convoy carrying some civilian women, whom they suspected to be Kuki, coming from Moirang side towards Imphal on Monday around 2 pm at Ningthoukhong.
Bishnupur district police came to the spot and verified the identity of the civilians as family members of some of the soldiers.
As the convoy continued their journey, another group of protestors blocked them at Nambol area resulting in tussle.
The convoy passed through the protestors by dispersing them with firing of tear gas.
However, they met several such blockades in different stretch of Tiddim Road including Malom Bazar and Kwakeithel, where security forces resorted to firing tear gas, mock bombs to disperse the protestors.
Protestors also blocked road in Kakwa area as news spread.
At least three women protestors were injured and rushed to RIMS hospital.
One each of them were injured in incidents at M'a-lom, Kwakeithel and Kakwa.
Meanwhile, irate protestors burned official vehicle of IGP (intelligence) Kabib K at Kwakeithel.
Driver of the IGP was also injured in the incident.
Tussle be tween protestors and security forces continued till late night.
Several women protestors carried out a march from Singjamei area targeting chief minister's bungalow on Monday but police stopped them at Singjamei Chingamakhong traffic island.
The women protestors started their march from the office of Thawai Mirel at Singjamei Kongba Road Bheigyabati Leikai and were joined by women along the route.
As police stopped them at Singjamei Chin gamakhong, the women protestors carried out a sit-in by blocking half of the road.
Interacting with the media, one of the protestors strongly condemned the silence of both state and central government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not spoken a sin gle word till date while the remaining 50 MLAs in the state are unable to find a common ground, which is very unfortunate for the state, especially when the territorial integrity of the state is at stake.
They were planning to meet the chief minister and apprise their plights, she said.
The protestors shouted slogans demanding resignation of 50 MLAs, Prime Minister, union home minister, MPs from the state & Governor, dissolution of national political parties, and also call for a united stand against the threat to the state's integrity.
The protestors continued their protest till late night until large number of secu -rity forces dispersed them around 10.30 pm by using force.
Some of the protestors might be injured in the late night action, said sources.
