CJI, law minister urged to fill vacant post of HC Judge

Ex-minister O Joy Singh has submitted a written application urging the Union Minister of Law and Justice and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India (CJI) to expedite the process of filling up judges of Manipur High Court.
In his letter to the Union Minister of Law, and Justice and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, O Joy said that the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium made on July 5, 2023 for appointment of Justice Siddharth Mridul as the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court is welcomed and appreciated in the interest of overall expeditious disposal of election petitions and other cases pending before the Manipur High Court.
Informing that at present there are 36 election peti tions and 5519 other cases pending before the Manipur High Court, O Joy in his letter stated that the progress in trial of these petitions is far from satisfactory.
The present status of pending election petitions of Manipur High Court claims the highest record of 60 percent in the judicial history of-India.
Stating that appointment of one judge of Manipur High Court is still pending in the law ministry since January 2023, the letter urged the Union minister to expedite the process for appointment of the Judge.
