Imphal, September 15 2023:
The World Meetei Council (WMC) has appealed to the State Government to assist the Centre and Supreme Court constituted Commission/Committee/SIT on Manipur violence by submitting records and information pertaining to number of people killed, villages and places of worship destroyed and number of houses burnt in the course of violence.
A press release issued by WMC also asked the State Government to clarify from official records about the illegal villages and Churches being set up and those structures which were removed as per the law.
Moreover, the Government needs to clarify from official records about the number of illegal villages and Churches removed from reserved and protected forest as per the law, the Council added.
Saying that the authority should point out the number of Indians and Myanmar Nationals killed in the conflict too, the WMC reasoned that identification of citizenship shouldn't be a problem as it can be done through Government records, National Register of Citizens (NRC) etc.
The Council then drew the attention of Chief Minister N Biren Singh to make sure the Centre and Supreme Court constituted Committee/Commission come to genuine and meaningful conclusions on Manipur violence.
