Imphal, September 15 2023:
The National Research Centre (NRC) Manipur observed its 28th foundation day at Naorem Sanajaoba Public Library Hall, Imphal on Friday.
The function delved into the causes and solutions to the current crisis.
Floral tributes were paid to the photos of late professor N Sanajaoba, columnist and former NRC president Haobam Sanajaoba, archivist Potsangbam Lalmani, former MP W Kullabidhu, and several martyrs, on the occasion.
Teachers and students of different universities and colleges, social workers and representatives of different organisations participated in the programme.
DM University department of political science assistant professor Arambam Noni, NRC president Thongam Ajit and advisor P Bandan attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, assistant professor Arambam Noni emphasised on how the seed of division was sown after Manipur became part of the Union of India in 1949 while Bandan cautioned that some groups are trying to disintegrate the state by applying demolition theory and added that no such force can disintegrate the state.
In his address, Ajit came down hard on Chin-Kuki-Zo people and said that these people, who came late in Manipur, are indulging in all kinds of illegal activities like poppy cultivation, drug trade, terrorising public, extortion, deforestation, encroachment and creation of a New Golden Triangle in the state.
It is the failure on the part of the state government to take up timely action that led to the current situation, he said.
The president further said that the centre along with other organisations will continue awareness activities to make the public aware about the root cause of the crisis and to find solutions.
He also said that updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is the only solution that will bring lasting peace in the state.
