COCOMI spokesman to attend UNHRC session

Khuraijam Athouba, vice president of the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) and spokesperson of COCOMI has been nominated to attend the 54th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) taking place from September 11 to October 13 at Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
The COCOMI spokesperson was nominated by IPSA along with several allied civil society organisations, meira paibi and student bodies, namely ACOAM LUP, PANDM, IPAK, Kanglamei, KIL, CLK and KSA, said a statement issued by Birjit Tourangbam, president IPSA.
During the 54th session of the UNHRC, Khuraijam Athouba is expected to participate in various sessions, including the general debates and engage in side events addressing critical human rights issues affecting regions and nations worldwide.
He will also present representations to delegates from around the globe, focusing on the pressing crisis of "Chin-Kuki narco-terrorism" and the emerging new Golden Triangle along the Indo-Myanmar border region, especially within the State of Manipur and the northeastern states of India.
IPSA and the coalition of CSOs, acting on behalf of the indigenous people of North East and Western South East Asia (WESEA), have extended their best wishes to Athouba Khuraijam and commended his efforts to promote peace and progress by shedding light on the significant human rights challenges faced today.
They have also called for a united effort to eradicate the rising threat of narco- terrorism in the region.
