Irabot memorial month celebration begins

Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) president Soraisam Yaima on Friday reaffirmed SSUM's stand to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur at all cost and added that necessary arrangements have been made for resettlement of displaced Meitei people at their respective lands.
He made the statement while speaking at the inaugural function of "Lamyanba Irabot Ningsing Thabum (month-long memorial observation of Lamyanba Irabot)" organised by SSUM at Leimaram Shanti Bazar today.
As a part of the programme, floral tributes and homage was paid to the bust of Lamyanba Irabot erected at Shanti Bazar.
Expressing anguish over the present conflict which has led to loss of many precious lives and left thousands displaced, Yaiam asserted that SSUM takes the incessant attacks carried out against innocent Meitei civilians very seriously and will do everything necessary to protect Manipur and its people.
He also appealed to the people especially the youths to remember the contributions of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot who strove selflessly for the protection of Manipur's integrity and upliftment of the working class & the needy.
Later, SSUM provided a monetary donation to the village volunteers camping at Leimaram through Leimaram Yaipha Lamjing Lup.
Similarly, Irabot Celebration Committee, Uripok Local Council yesterday organised the month-long celebration of the 127th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot at the residence of Thangjam Robindro in Uripok Achom Leikai under the theme, "Protection of Manipur Territorial Integrity" .
It was attended by Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council (CPI/MSC) state secretary Leitanthem Thoiren, Kshetrimayum Nobo and Thokchom Yaiskul as presidium members.
The celebration began with the participants paying tribute including a red salute to a portrait of Lamyanba Irabot followed by a welcome address by Uripok Local Council secretary S Gopeshwar Sharma.
