Imphal, September 15 2023:
Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) president S Yaima has stated that no other community can forcibly take over the land of Meeteis who have been temporarily displaced due to the on-going conflict.
Any attempt to do so will be dealt with accordingly, he added.
On Friday, volunteers of SSUM along with locals offered floral tributes to the bust of Lamyanba Irabot, installed at Leimaram Shanti Bazar as part of the Lamyanba Irabot commemoration event, which is to be observed till September 30.Speaking on the occasion, SSUM president S Yaima raised strong objection to attempts being made by some groups to annihilate Meeteis and destroy the integrity of Manipur.
In many places, Meetei villagers have been driven away from their homes and their villages burnt down, with the ultimate objective to take over the land, he noted.
Stating that no one can forcibly take over land belonging to the Meeteis, which are temporarily vacant, Yaima said that SSUM will deal such cases accordingly and asserted that the union will try its level best to ensure the displaced people return to their respective homes.
He then urged all concerned not to disturb the academic atmosphere of students, adding that education is also needed in fighting this conflict.
If needed, the students will not shy away from participating in issues plaguing Manipur, he said, while urging all youths to inculcate Lamyanba Irabot's vision of unity and preservation of integrity of the state.
Later, SSUM volunteers extended monetary assistance to the village volunteers of Leimaram through Leimaram Yaipha Lamjing Lup.
