Kakching, September 11 2023:
Yengkhom Ongbi Manitombi, wife of (late) Yengkhom Jiten appealed to organizations concerned of Kakching to provide a clarification why these organizations have opposed in claiming the dead body of her husband to perform the last rites.
Yengkhom Jiten was killed on September 8 when the Assam Rifles fired live rounds at the enraged crowd demanding removal of barricades of Assam Rifles at Unapal Lamkhai of Leimangai Chingjin.
Addressing media persons during a press meet held today at Chumnang Leikai Community hall, Manitombi expressed that her husband has been martyred for the cause of the people.

'It is heartwarming to see the immense support of the people of my locality and the JAC formed in connection with the death of my husband to get justice amid such a difficult phase', she said.
Highly disturbed by the opposition raised by some local bodies of Kakching on claiming the dead body of her husband, she categorically stated that she will never trade her husband's body with money.
'It is really unfortunate to put my image wrongly as a greedy woman just because I come from a poor household', she lamented.
Appealing to all concerned to refrain from maligning her image, she declared that she and her family will have no objections in whatever steps taken up by the JAC and the people in connection with the death of her husband.
Landhoni, a family member of the deceased that the JAC formed by 19 local clubs and Meira Paibis have been making sincere efforts as per the wishes of the people to ensure that justice is delivered.
While meeting with the Chief Minister, the JAC also demanded removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur along with a set of other demands, she said.
Landhoni further informed that as per the assurance given by the Chief Minister and considering the vulnerable condition of the family, the JAC and the locals decided to claim Jiten's body.
Lastly she appealed to all to support in the cause of the JAC and attend his last rites.
Meanwhile, 'the JAC Against the killing of innocent Yengkhom Jiten Singh by Assam Rifles', Pallel clarified that the JAC resolved to claim the body of the deceased since the Chief Minister agreed to fulfil most of the demands raised by the JAC during a meeting held on September 9 .
However it is unfortunate that some local bodies of Kakching have opposed the claim of the body of Yengkhom Jiten from JNIMS morgue yesterday, said a press release.
The JAC and locals of Chumnang Leikai condemn such acts in the strongest terms, added the release.
Further the locals of Chumnang Leikai have resolved not to take any form of responsibility for the time being from Langsai Thouna Kakching in connection with the ongoing crisis.
With regard to the derogatory statement made by a lady speaker during a meeting yesterday organised by Langsai Thouna Kakching that 'the people of Chumnang Leikai can be bought by money', the locals demanded an immediate clarification failing which legal actions will be taken against her.
