Imphal, September 11 2023:
Accusing the State Government of disregarding the Indian Constitution, former Law Minister Okram Joy has said that there is political instability in the Biren Singh led Manipur Government.
Speaking to the media at his residence at Kakwa today, the veteran politician continued that the 10 Kuki MLAs have been colluding with narco-terrorists from Myanmar to disintegrate Manipur using different tactics.
The hostile campaign of Kuki militant groups under SoO pact against Meeteis is disturbing, he also condemned the Assam Rifles men for their excesses on multiple occasions.
Assam Rifles can be withdrawn by simply taking a Cabinet decision, he said.
He also claimed that the State Government is unable to do anything against the Assam Rifles for all their excesses and against Kuki militant groups for violating the SoO agreement.
The Kuki MLAs have even demanded separate Chief Secretary, DGP etc as a part of their movement to bifurcate the State and the Government is still not penalising them, O Joy said.
Saying that an understanding was reached with India while signing the merger agreement to protect the unity and territorial integrity of Manipur, the veteran politician asked the Central Government to always uphold the assurance given during the time of merger.
These 10 Kuki MLAs have taken an oath to work in the interest of Manipur and serve the people without any favouritism or fear and as such they need to be disqualified, O Joy asserted.
Reminding that he had already written to the Prime Minister and the Governor to take action against the 10 Kuki MLAs on May 26, O Joy continued that the Prime Minister Office (PMO) sent the reply for his complaint to the Chief Secretary on May 30 .
O Joy said that the PMO directed the Chief Secretary to take action against the 10 Kuki MLAs, to send a reply to the complainant (him) about the action taken and to upload the same to the portal of PMO in its reply.
Saying that he sent another complaint to the Chief Secretary on August 8 over the failure of the Government to adhere to the directions of PMO, the veteran politician continued that no actions have been taken up against the Kuki MLAs as of yet by the State Government.
Recently Chief Minister N Biren Singh had said that the two Kuki Ministers in the Cabinet are still working for the departments under their portfolios virtually and the same is very unfortunate, O Joy said and asked why the Manipur Government is still 'protecting' the Kuki MLAs who want to disintegrate Manipur.
Continuing that the current situation in Manipur is similar to the period of seven years devastation where even women and children were raped and killed mercilessly, the veteran politician said that there is no reason why the 10 Kuki MLAs shouldn't be penalised as it is them who fuel the violence.
Urging the Chief Minister to remove the two Kuki Ministers from the Cabinet and disqualify all the Kuki MLAs at the earliest, he said that there is no point in protecting the common foe of the people.
Do the Central and State Government have an agenda in the ongoing crisis or are BJP leaders involved in narco-terrorism, he asked.
He went on to ask why the BJP National president JP Nadda and State unit president A Sarda are not taking any action against their MLAs who openly demanded disintegration
of Manipur.
