Imphal, September 11 2023:
At least 23 MLAs have assured to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur and stand against the separate administration demand being raised by Kuki MLAs while endorsing the movement of Youths of Manipur (YoM) today.
The MLAs took the collective resolution in the presence of YoM representatives and Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the CM's Bungalow by signing a pledge brought by YoM.
The Chief Minister, however, didn't sign the pledge.
Earlier, thousands of volunteers of YoM tried to head toward CM Bungalow at Babupara this evening to meet the Chief Minister but they were stopped by Rapid Action Force (RAF) and State forces in front of Hicham Yaichampat at Moirangkhom.
After reaching a consensus, the State police allowed about 100 YoM representatives to meet N Biren Singh at CM Bungalow.
Reportedly, the MLAs also agreed to head to New Delhi and mount pressure on the Central leadership to work out a solution for the ongoing violence.
After the meeting with the MLAs, the YoM representatives came out from CM Bungalow at around 9.20 pm and regrouped with thousands of other youths at Moirangkhom.
There, one of the YoM volunteers apprised the gathering about what transpired during the meeting using a megaphone.
He said that they appealed to the Chief Minister and the MLAs to call an emergency session of the Assembly as soon as possible, work out a solution to restore peace, prevent village volunteers from confronting Kuki militants by deploying adequate security personnel (excluding Assam Rifles) at vulnerable areas, take up action against Assam Rifles if they continue to take sides, take up legal actions against 10 Kuki MLAs and to update National Register of Citizens (NRC) among other agenda.
Saying that the 23 MLAs have endorsed their demands, he asked the Government to take responsibility for all eventuality if their demands are not entertained.
