Bishnupur, September 11 2023:
Condemning alleged atrocities committed against the Meeteis by central forces deployed in the state during the ongoing conflict, All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup president L Nganbi Devi has stated that Manipur seems to have become a state without any authority or governance.
Addressing media persons at Bishnupur forest gate on Monday, L Nganbi recalled whereabouts of an innocent person remaining unknown after he was apprehended from Sekmai area on Sunday, as well as excessive use of tear gas, smoke bomb and live rounds towards the Meeteis who protested the planned cremation of Kuki bodies at Torbung in Bishnupur.
Further, crackdown against Meetei demonstrators by central forces including Assam Rifles as central and state governments remained mute spectators underscore the indifferent attitude of the government.
Subsequent to the pressure exerted by the people to convene assembly session to discuss the root cause of the present conflict, the government finally conducted the assembly session for a single day only.
However, instead of discussing the prevailing unrest situation, the ruling party claimed that the discussion could not proceed due to disturbances caused by the opposition, she said, while adding that such act is belittling the meaning of democracy.
People as well as political parties want an end the violence, restore peace and live harmoniously like before, she maintained, while reasoning that people are obstructing movement of Assam Rifles for the latter's failure to protect the people.
It is inhumane that the representatives elected by people remain silent spectators while people are suffering, she further denounced and demanded that the government take firm resolution and protect the liVes and properties of the people.
