Imphal, September 11 2023:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity's (COCOMI) Women Wing has urged both the Central and State Government to withdraw Assam Rifles from the soil of Manipur.
Speaking to media persons during a press briefing held at UCM Office in Lamphelpat, W Luwang Leima, executive member of COCOMI's Women Wing pointed out the numerous allegations of bias against the Assam Rifles while adding that many proofs to support these claims have also emerged.
She accused the AR personnel of using their strength and courage not to protect the people of the country, but to turn against them and inflict atrocities upon them.
In view of such circumstances, she expressed doubt if the Indian Government had deployed these security personnel under a specific policy to annihilate the people.
Referring to the recent Pallel incident where AR personnel displayed excessive use of force in dealing with the agitating crowd, she shared that the menfolk joined the agitation after seeing the abusive treatment meted out by the AR personnel on the womenfolk.
At this point, the AR personnel started firing at the crowd which led to the death of two men, she said.
Through this act, the AR have inadvertently made a move in support of the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, W Luwang Leima claimed.
Strongly condemning the incident, she called for a CBI probe into the Pallel incident and strict punishment for the AR personnel responsible for the killing of two civilians.
Urging the Chief Minister to take decisive steps to remove AR from Manipur, she further conveyed that the womenfolk of Manipur will launch a series of intense agitation against the Assam Rifles.
