Imphal, September 11 2023:
Informing that Moreh-Imphal vehicle service providers are facing tough time due to the on-going conflict, All Manipur Imphal to Moreh Drivers' Union has drawn the attention of the government towards the urgency to provide them with a source of livelihood.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Monday morning, Union president K Nabakishore said that the drivers operating along Imphal-Moreh route have been severely impacted by the prevailing conflict, with some driven to their wit's end.
As such, a meeting of the drivers will be held on September 16 and a memorandum would be submitted to the CM in this regard.
Union vice president K Binodkumar said that most of the drivers plying along the route are still paying interests of the vehicles to moneylenders, while others are complying with the pact related to clearance of loans taken.
However, most of them are in a dilemma over how to pay off the money when they can no longer drive and their houses are in darkness.
Thus, he urged the government to extend support and help provide a source of livelihood to the drivers.
