Sub-contractors warn of project shutdown

Workers and sub-contractors who executed Jal Jeevan Mission programmes in Tamenglong and Noney districts have warned of launching intense forms of agitation if the department concerned fail to release bills for completed works by September 13.The decision to launch the agitation was arrived at during a joint meet of workers and sub-contractors held Sunday at Longmai Bazaar Board office.
After the meeting, sub-contractor Alan Panmei told media persons that contruction of 82 water tanks under Jal Jeevan Mission scheme with the funding of National Development Bank at 82 work sites in Tamenglong and Noney districts have been completed.
All the works were taken up under contractor Vishnu Prakash Thekadar Under the aegis of state Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).
Workers and sub-contractors have completed the works from their own pocket money without getting any running bill and accordingly approached relevant officials for releasing bills.
Numerous memoranda in this regard have been submitted to all concerned but no positive action is forthcoming till date.
This prompted workers and sub-contractors to convene a meet on Sunday at Longmai and decided to launch intense forms of agitation.
Closure of ongoing national projects in Tamenglong and Noney districts and blockade along Imphal-Jiri road will be part of the proposed agitation, Alan Pahmei said adding that government and the department concerned must be responsible for any untoward incident.
