Imphal, September 11 2023:
Lok Janshakti Party (UP) national general secretary W Shriman has expressed strong condemnation against Assam Rifles for use of excessive force and live rounds on unarmed civilians in the Pallel incident of September 8.Addressing a press meet here on Sunday, Shriman also took strong exception against the remarks of retired major Amit Bansal of Assam Rifles in a YouTube channel regarding the Manipur issue.
Major Bansal's remarks tantamount to challenging and defaming Manipuri society while his attitude is no less than tarnishing the image of Indian Army, Shriman said while cautioning of filing defamation suit against the major retired unless he apologises for his remark within one week.
JDU general secretary S Preshowjit, who was also present at the press meet, said that retired major Amit Bansal fabricated the history of Manipur during a talk show in retired AR major general Yash Mor's YouTube channel published on August 13.His remarks were not to help in bringing peace but to incite more violence.
Everybody should condemn such remarks from a retired AR major, who not only defames the Manipur police, Meira Paibi and Manipuri society but also claimed that Kuki predates Meeteis in Manipur.
He also urged Assam Rifles to look into the matter.
