Imphal, September 11 2023:
Reacting to the recent incident wherein a Manipur Police SI was severely beaten up by suspected Kuki militants in Churachandpur, the Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) H/Q has asserted that the Meitei Pangal community does not need to seek permission from the Chin-Kuki community to travel through the length and breadth of the State.
On September 9, Sub-Inspector Singamayum Sabir Ahamed along with two others from the Meitei Pangal community were held captive by suspected Kuki militants for entering Churachandpur and being in possession of a 'Salai Taret' flag and a sticker that read "The integrity of Manipur cannot be compromised", said a statement issued by Boboi Korimayum, president, MMWO.
Terming the physical assault as an act of cowardice, MMWO said that the idea of upholding the territorial integrity of Manipur is a sentiment shared by the entire Meitei Pangal community of Manipur.
Recalling other instances where members of the Meitei Pangal community were at the receiving end of violence allegedly perpetrated by Kuki militants, MMWO highlighted the incident where more than eight people suffered grievous injuries as suspected Kuki militants turned their guns on the largely Meitei Pangal populated region of Kwakta under Bishnupur district.
Aside from this, MMWO also recounted the heartbreaking incident where three Meitei Pangal youths were seriously injured after a bomb allegedly fitted by Kuki militants went off at a culvert atop the Moirang River.
As a result of this, one of the injured youth in the bomb blast has become permanently disabled, MMWO shared.
Taking stock of these incidents, including the latest case of physical assault on Sm Sabir Ahamed, MMWO said that the Chin-Kukis must be held accountable for all these wrongdoings.
It further maintained that the Meitei Pangals are a peaceful lot, but the repeated atrocities inflicted upon members of this community by suspected Kuki militants has crossed all tolerable limits.
"We will live freely and move freely throughout Manipur.
We do not need to seek a passport or visa from Chin Kuki people for this", MMWO said.
