Babloo takes crisis to UNHRC

Prominent human rights activist Babloo Loitongbam brought up the present Manipur crisis during a panel discussion held on the sideline of the 53rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva on June 27 .
During the panel discussion on the "Reclaiming Civic Space in Asia", Babloo Loitongbam presented the situation in Manipur at three levels.
He spoke about the conflict between the Meitei and the Kuki community in Manipur, 'rising right wing politics' in India where the organically evolved civil society is being 'subdued' .
He stressed on the geo-politics of the region including the civil war in Myanmar and the ethno-Nationalist mobilization of Chin Kuki Mizo as well as the clandestine narcotics economy.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Association and of Assembly also presented a gist of his report to be presented in the HRC.
Human rights activists from FORUM-ASIA, Thailand, Myanmar also spoke in the panel discussion.
About 60 delegates representing Geneva based human rights organisations attended the discussion.
Three representatives of the European Manipuri Association also attended the event and actively participated in a question and answer session, said the association (EMA) in a statement.
Anticipating the panel discussion to bring positive results that would alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Manipur, EMA sent gratitude to Babloo Loitongbam for his 'powerful' presentation on the Manipur crisis.
